On Sunday, August 3rd, I had my first official wedding with Curtis, as his second shooter. It was so wonderful!!
I met Curtis at Allison’s house at 9 a.m. and we had lots of time to document Allison and her three wonderful bridesmaids getting their hair and makeup done, hanging out, and getting Allison into her absolutely gorgeous wedding gown. I seriously couldn’t stop looking at her dress (I’m 99% sure she said it was by Maggie Sottero), it was so so so pretty and flowed so perfectly, and I loved the pink sash and beaded bottom layer of her skirt. It was amazing! I have photos of the gown hanging on the coolest old barn door, but they are so similar to one Curtis already posted so go visit his blog to see the photos of the dress and Allison looking so beautiful in it!
Okay, back to the day – Curtis and I also had lots of time to take photos of Allison’s pink Jimmy Choo shoes and the wedding bands, and all the other little wonderful details of the day. I also loved trying to get a good photo of Mike and Allison’s little dog, Merlin, who was so sweet and cute and a little bothered by all the action going on in his house. After everyone was all dressed and ready to go, we took some fun photos of the girls all together out in the backyard, and then we made a quick stop at the same old barn to take some photos of Allison with the wonderful peeling-paint backdrop.
Then we all headed to Starbuck, which is a little town southwest of Winnipeg, for the 4 p.m. outdoor wedding, which was perfect, beautiful and sentimental. I especially liked the sand ceremony, where Allison and Mike poured pink and brown sand, respectively, into a larger jar to symbolize their joining themselves together. After the ceremony Curtis took the family photos, and I watched and paid attention to his techniques in arranging people to create eye-pleasing group photos, and then we had an hour to photograph the bride and groom and wedding party out on the golf course. The whole group looked so good and were so fun, and I loved Allison’s colors of pink and brown (possibly my favorite pairing of colors), and Mike and Allison looked so elegant and happy – anyway, it all made for some amazing photos! Oh, and we all got to drive around in golf carts, which was so so so fun!
The speeches at the reception were possibly the most touching part of the day for me, and besides Allison’s dress, it’s what I’ll remember most from this wedding. They made it so clear how special these two people are, not only to each other, but to their large and very close-knit group of friends. The speeches were funny and poignant, and made me miss my friends in Chicago.
Anyway, here are a number of the detail photos I took throughout the day. Go visit Curtis’s blog to see photos of Mike and Allison and the whole wedding party, and to view his slideshow of so many amazing photos from the day!! Thank you to Curtis for being so wonderful, and thank you to Mike and Allison and all their friends for letting me be a part of their day!!
