Last week I was so privileged to photograph the public opening of the Joe Fafard Exhibition at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. I had never heard of Joe Fafard before but I was seriously so blown away by his work, by the range of it but also the emotions that he manages to create on the faces and in the poses of his sculptures. I had never been a big fan of sculpture before but I couldn’t stop trying to stare at each one as I was photographing other people looking at them. I’m definitely, definitely going to go back again so I have more time to look at each piece and really feel each one. And also, Joe Fafard seems like the nicest man! He was so friendly and cute and such a good person, and that makes me love his art even more! If you want to read more about Joe Fafard, click here for his website.
That same night was also the re-opening of the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s newly renovated rooftop sculpture garden. It was so amazingly gorgeous and peaceful, and the light was so beautiful, and the band, Les Six Crockes, was fabulous (and a number of people said the same to me, too!). It’s a beautiful venue, and I found out it can be rented out, too!
Thank you so much to Doren Roberts (Special Events Co-ordinator), Dr. Stephen Borys (Director of the WAG), Lana Siman (who works for Joe Fafard and was wonderful in pointing people out to me), and to Joe Fafard for being amazing, and I’m so happy I’ve discovered his work!!
Here are some of my favorite photos from the night, and also CLICK HERE to view a slideshow.
