Lynn & Jonah :: Engaged!!

Meet Lynn and Jonah!! They’ll be getting married in just barely over a month, it’ll be such a wonderful day and so fun!! We met a couple weeks ago for lots of fun engagement photos, starting first in the Exchange and by the waterfront, and then we headed to Kildonan Park, and Lynn picked up one of her dogs on the way for some cute photos with him, too! It was such a fun time, and I loved getting to know them so much better, and also see them go from really nervous at the beginning to complete naturals in front of the camera at the end (that’s one of the HUGE benefits of doing an engagement shoot!)!! And I love that Jonah brought the note that he used to ask Lynn to marry him, too – he had it wrapped up with string and put in an amazing box with a bottle of wine, and at dinner the waiter presented it to them as planned, Lynn opened it up and read the note and it’s all history from then!! I love sweet engagement stories!

Thank you so much to Jonah and Lynn, I had SO much fun with you two, and I’m so looking forward to your wedding day now and all the wonderful emotions, love and pretty details!!!! Here are a bunch of my favorites from the day!! ::

Shawna & Mike :: Engaged!!

Meet Shawna and Mike!! They’re getting married this July and I’m already looking forward to their wedding, I had SUCH a fun time hanging out with them for their engagement shoot! They’re both such wonderful people, so nice, so fun, so funny, and they have a perfect combination of having fun and making each other laugh a lot, and also being so sweet and romantic together!! And I have to repeat just how much I love their laughter and how they get each other laughing so easily, I love it so much!!

We went to Fort Whyte Alive first, and luckily they brought rain boots so they could trudge through mud and a little snow! It was so nice that day and we were all just so happy being outside and basking in the sunshine and warmth! We had lots of fun exploring, taking lots of photos, and searching for beautiful light! Then we headed off to the Exchange for a few more photos, the light was beautiful and Mike had even scouted out a few locations! A little tidbit, I have to mention it cause I’m so fascinated by it – Mike works in (I hope I say this semi-correctly!) computer graphics for movies, he specializes in creating water scenes for movies and probably TV shows as well, so for example a big tidal wave coming in, he helps create that and make it look so real!!! How cool is that?!! I have no idea how they do it so it’s so interesting hearing about it!

I want to thank Shawna and Mike for being so wonderfully patient, I didn’t get much done for about three weeks due to all-day-early-pregnancy symptoms, and was getting so stressed about it. I’m so happy to finally be getting their photos to them! I had a very hard time choosing which ones to blog cause there are so many wonderful and fun shots (you’ll both see all of them in a couple days now!)! Thank you so much, Shawna and Mike, both for being so patient and understanding, and also for being so much fun to hang out with! I already know your wedding will be fabulously fun all day long!!!

Stacey & Peter :: Winter Wedding!!

Stacey & Peter had SUCH a gorgeous wedding, it made me fall in love with winter weddings all over again!! And for February, it was SO nice, we were so thankful for that!! I started out the day in Morden with Stacey and the girls, and Jody started in Winkler with Peter and the guys. Stacey and Peter had a First Look on a beautiful gravel (and snowy!) road in the country in Winkler, and it was so sweet and intimate when they saw each other for the first time, and then made the rest of the day flow so nicely! We took some photos at the cow farm where Peter works (the cows were so cute!!!), on another snowy country road, at a cute 50’s diner, at a house outside of Morden with a little sleigh, and at a house in Morden for some indoor photos. It was such a fun day and I loved all the various locations so much!! And Stacey and Peter are so cute together and I love the mix of fun and sweetness they have – and I absolutely LOVE the way Stacey looks up at Peter, it’s so filled with love!!

After the photos, we headed to the church, where the reception was also going to be held, and I was so impressed with all of Stacey’s decor, she did absolutely amazing and the attention to detail and little sweet aspects were so wonderful! Stacey – being a wedding planner could be in your future!! The ceremony was wonderful, Stacey was looking at Peter with such love and calmness, Peter was looking at Stacey with such sweetness, and there were a few tears shed by both. It was really sweet and emotional, and the deep love between these two was so apparent. Then off to the fun reception, which was filled with wonderful food and some very funny speeches!

Thank you so much to Stacey and Peter for including Jody and I in your special day, it was truly so beautiful and fun!!! And thank you to their whole wedding party for being so fun! And thank you also to Megan Hildebrand for all her help and friendliness at the reception, it was so wonderful meeting you (and I’ve seen her floral creations before – so so so beautiful)!!

This was my first Rock Booth (I did another this past weekend as well!) and it was so much fun!! Stacey had actually wanted to do one before we met, so she already had all the props ready to go, and I love love love how much fun people have when there are dress up objects sitting there begging to be worn!! I have a few random favorites posted here, and below that there’s a flash gallery of many more!! Little Julia & Easton :: Winnipeg Child Photography

Meet little Julia and her proud big brother Easton! Julia was just over two weeks old when I met her and she is so so so perfect and sweet and beautiful and adorable!!! Easton had said during his mom’s whole pregnancy that he wanted a sister so he was so happy (although he apparently thinks she’s a little boring now! ) He was a little shy at first but I managed to get him to like me I think! And then he was so good with kissing his little sister, and his mom had him smell Julia’s little foot and that was so funny to him!

Tamara and Jaret, I’m so happy for you both, Julia is so precious and it will be so much fun to see her grow! And Tamara, I’m so glad we finally met, you’re so wonderful!!!

Planned Perfectly Open House :: Winnipeg Wedding Vendors

Last week I went to an open house that Planned Perfectly was hosting, and some of Winnipeg’s top wedding vendors were there showing their gorgeous table decor, flower arrangements, and beautiful cakes!! I so love gorgeous details and colors, it was like being a kid in a candy store! I even got to peek in the back of Planned Perfectly’s warehouse and there were SO MANY colors and materials for table decor, I think my eyes were so big looking at them all and it would be such a hard decision to pick just one! But that’s where Kylee of Planned Perfectly, Emma of Events by Emma, and/or Andrea of Soiree Event Planning would be a huge and invaluable help – to narrow down the options and design absolutely perfect decor for your wedding!!! Gloria & Deb from Floral Elements provided the beautiful flower arrangements (that would be another hard choice for me, I love so many flowers!!), and Belinda from High Tea Bakery provided the gorgeous cakes – and there were also tastings provided of many cake flavors, so yummy!! Also, Breezy Bend Country Club provided some equally beautiful and fabulous appetizers for all the brides and grooms to try! It’s so amazing to be surrounded by great people who love their jobs, and those qualities really shine through in all of these wonderful vendors!!

I want to say a special thank you to Emma. I was a little nervous before walking in because I hadn’t met all the vendors before and was scared I would be out of place, etc. – you know that feeling where you’re just nervous when you go somewhere new for the first time by yourself, that was how I felt. But as soon as I walked in the door, Emma greeted me and chatted with me, walked me around to show me the place and decor, and introduced me to all the vendors. It was so amazing and she made me feel so wonderful and included, and it meant so so much to me!!! Thank you, Emma – you didn’t know I was nervous I know, but I want to acknowledge how happy and included you made me feel!

I took lots of photos!!! The tables were so so so beautiful, the linens and glass wear and candles and stationary and floral arrangements were all just wonderful, each table was so pretty and unique!! Here are some of the photos, and brides, definitely check out these vendors, they’re all so wonderful, caring, and so talented!

This first table was designed and decorated by Emma of Events by Emma (I love pink!!)!

This next table was designed and decorated by Andrea and Lindsay of Soiree Event Planning (I always love the gorgeous branch centerpieces!!)!

Belinda of High Tea Bakery provided such gorgeous cakes!!! The cake in the middle of the photo below is a replica of a cake she made for one of my brides, Aimee – I was in love with the beauty of the cake at Aimee’s wedding and I’m in still in love with it!!

Amelie & Ellyce :: Winnipeg Family Photography

Jody and I became friends with Jason & MaryAnne in 2008, when Jody did a huge renovation on the second floor of their house, and also earlier put in a bathroom on the main floor. He’d always come home and tell me how they were such good people, so fun, so nice, so smart, etc. And he always raved about their little girl, Amelie, who was I think 2 1/2 or 3 at the time – he’d say she was the cutest and best behaved little girl ever! Amelie was scared of Jody at first and that went on for awhile I think, and then she started referring to him as “The Man” (I love that!!!), and finally she got to the point of calling him Jody! I was so happy when I finally got to meet the family, and was equally impressed, they’re just the best of people and so wonderful, and so fun, and so interesting! And I also love that Jason and MaryAnne are both naturopathic doctors, I just listen and listen and try to get any knowledge I can from them in that area!

Little Ellyce (Lee Lee) arrived in late August 2008, and she was just a wee teensy little baby when they came over on the night of our wedding on September 2nd! I took some family photos and newborn photos soon after that (when I was just starting out in my own business!) – it’s incredible to look back and see all of Lee Lee’s dark newborn hair, and now I see how much Amelie has grown and changed!! I saw Amelie and Lee Lee two or three times after that, over the next year, and Lee Lee was growing into such a happy little girl! And Amelie was such a good big sister!

I was so excited to go spend more time with them to take lots of photos of the girls and some family photos! I love seeing both how similar Amelie and Lee Lee look, but also how different their personalities are. Amelie is so so so cute and pretty, and so animated and I love all the silly faces she makes!! And it’s so funny to me how much she loves TimBits!! I have so many photos of her going to the TimBits box! And little Lee Lee is such a happy little girl, she smiles so much, she’s so cuddly (I got to hold her and I loved it!!!!!!), and she seems so laid back and just so happy!

I’m trying out a new feature in the updated blog theme I use, so instead of having this be a long post with lots of photos, they’ll be in a kind of slideshow. And then I made a cool slideshow that I’ve embedded below that! So often with sessions, especially family sessions, there’s just so many expressions and fun and different thing, so I love how slideshows tell the story of the day so well!

Client Love!!! :: Winnipeg Wedding Photography

I so fall in love with my clients!! I love getting to know them, I love sharing in their excitement, I love spending their wedding day with them and feeling like they’re good friends by the end of the day, I love seeing their range of emotions and playing a part in their wedding day – the day they’ve dreamed of for so long! And I love showing them their photos, so they can relive the whole day and have gorgeous photos of themselves!

Two of my wonderful wedding clients from this past year were Aimee & Christopher. I remember first meeting them at my house and how I loved seeing that special sweet connection they had, and a combination of such a deep love and also a fun, almost newly dating excitement for each other – it was so wonderful and sweet and heartwarming! We had such a fun time at their engagement shoot and those are still some of my favorite photos ever!! And their wedding day was so beautiful, they have such wonderful families and had such a fun wedding party, and when we got them off by themselves that deep love for each other was so strong, and then we also had lots of fun photos, I love how much fun they have together!!

Aimee and Christopher recently stopped by to drop off a thank you note and referral letter for me. I was so so so touched, and it absolutely made my day and raises my spirits whenever I look at it!! Thank you so so much, Aimee & Christopher, and know the feeling is completely mutual, I adore you both!!!

I wanted to share some of what they wrote, because it means so much!!

I have so many favorite photos of Aimee and Christopher, it’s so hard for me to choose!! But here are a few of the many I love!

Aimee is also so creative and talented!! I know she’ll end up doing something with the wedding industry, because she loves it so much and is so creative and excited about everything wedding and love-related!! She just started making adorable little cards and boutonnieres, and she’s opening an etsy shop! I LOVE etsy!!!! She just dropped off the first batch of cards – sixpence cards – for me to take photos of for her – she has them available in all different colors and with the cutest little decorations on them!! I quickly took a couple photos so I could attach them here, so everyone can see a little tease of how cute they are!!! I’ll post some more photos soon, and link to her fabulous etsy shop!!!

Today has been a bit of down day for me. I know we all have them sometimes, days when we feel very alone and lonely (two different feelings, neither fun). I miss my friends in Chicago right now. I’ve been listening to a lot of John Mayer, Thievery Corporation, Mazzy Star and Portishead so that tells you all you need to know about my state of mind. I’ve been productive though so at least that’s good!

Conan’s last show is on right now and that’s making me feel sad, too, and they played a sweet vignette of clips set to music and that kind of thing is so powerful and makes me teary!! I’ll miss him and I’m so sad for him!! (Even though I have to say that Craig Ferguson is my absolute favorite late night host, he’s so brilliant and genius and absolutely hysterical – so I’m VERY glad he’ll still be on, I’d be more sad if he was getting the boot!)

Anyway, I just took a break a little bit ago and decided to edit some photos just for me! Jody and I went out in the morning a couple weeks ago when we saw the trees covered in gorgeous frost and ice, it was so beautiful and my photos don’t even do it justice – I kind of knew I couldn’t possibly capture adequate wide angle shots that showed all the trees covered (my favorite lens was in the shop for cleaning and we mostly saw those from the car!) so I focused more on the small details and winter light. We had a wonderful time that day walking around and driving around and I have some very cute and funny photos. But because of my mood right now the photos (well the ones I edited, not the ones of Jody and I) all seem kind of moody to me – it reminded me again that one part of the experience of photography is the frame of mind of the viewer at that moment. In a couple days I’ll probably look at them again and see gorgeous winter wonderland!

Tomorrow I’m helping Curtis out at a beautiful winter wedding, I’m excited! Seeing the love and laughter and joy of a wedding day always makes me so happy and filled with excitement for the couple!!!

(I just heard Conan’s speech at the end of the show, he’s so amazing, such a good person and he took such a high road – and I love what he said about cynicism. I love him even more after that. And am even more sad for him now.) Anyway, here are some of my photographic observations of a frosty Winnipeg winter day. ::
